Promoting inclusion through working with innovative social models for empowering people who require support to self-determine as active citizens is a vital approach towards building a more inclusive and equitable society.

Here are some strategies that can be employed to achieve this goal:

Co-design Approach:

Adopt a collaborative approach that recognizes and respects the unique needs, desires, and aspirations of individuals who require support. This means listening and making informed decisions. This approach develops the best outcomes and demonstrates the value we place on each employee. “People with different abilities are experts in their own lives”.

CISE supports all stakeholders within an Inclusive workplace by providing flexible and individualized support that allows all parties to exercise autonomy and make choices that align with their values and preferences and the workplace requirements.

Collaborative Partnerships: CISE fosters partnerships among different stakeholders because Inclusion is everyone’s responsibility. When participants who require support find sustainable employment the benefits are far-reaching. Several enablers such as families, service providers, policymakers, and community organizations ensure that the voices of those who require support are heard. Their participation in decision-making processes is therefore promoted. Such partnerships will facilitate the co-design and co-delivery of support services, policies, and programs. We all learn along the continuum of the employment pathway. This allows us to build better Inclusion pathways in the future.

Innovative Social Models: We embrace innovative social models that challenge traditional notions of support and promote self-determination and active citizenship. For example, models such as supported decision-making, where individuals with disabilities are supported in making their own decisions rather than having decisions made for them. We promote models which do not congregate persons requiring support together for training or work practices. Participating as an active citizen means acting with purpose within your community while sharing your gifts and interests.

Empowerment and Skill Development: We aim to provide opportunities for empowerment and skill development to individuals who require support. This can include promoting self-advocacy skills, facilitating access to education, employment, and recreational activities, and fostering social connections and networks. Empowerment and skill development can enhance the self-esteem, confidence, and social inclusion of individuals, enabling them to contribute within their respective communities and society at large.

Technology and Innovation: We endeavour to create inclusive solutions that enhance the independence, participation, and social inclusion of individuals who require support. For example, assistive technologies can empower individuals with disabilities to communicate, access information, and perform daily tasks independently, to meet this goal we consult with experts within the IT sector as required to access the range of augmentative communication aids.

Advocacy and Policy Change:

CISE engages with advocacy platforms to promote policy changes that advance the rights and inclusion of individuals who require support. This can involve advocating for policy reforms that promote a rights-based approach, highlighting shortfalls in community-based services, and promoting inclusive education and employment opportunities. It can also involve promoting changes in societal attitudes and perceptions towards individuals who require support, challenging stereotypes, and promoting positive narratives that highlight their abilities and contributions.

We base our programs on supporting people with different abilities rather than highlighting their disabilities.

By adopting these strategies and working with innovative social models, we can empower individuals who require support to self-determine as active citizens. Through collective action, we can all foster a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to participate fully and contribute.
