CISE who we are & what we do
In 2019, Camphill Initiatives for Social Ecology (CISE) was founded in Kilkenny by the late Patrick Lydon (1955-2022). From the start, we focused on creating opportunities for meaningful roles and employment within our local communities. Our vision is to build inclusive spaces where diversity is celebrated as a strength.
Today, CISE is working on many new ideas that bring people together to promote community inclusion. Our approach is based on a social-ecological model, which emphasises the importance of relationships, connection, and purpose in shaping each person’s unique journey.
We know we don’t have all the answers, so we actively seek partnerships and collaboration to create these pathways together.

Our Values & Vision
We are committed to supporting a more inclusive society by working with innovative social models that empower people to take charge of their lives and be active members of their communities. Through our Community Engagement Programmes (CEP), we build partnerships within local communities to support job opportunities and meaningful roles for everyone. By participating in your community, you can become an active citizen and make a unique contribution.
At CISE, we believe everyone has a role to play. That’s why we work closely with participants to co-design our models, ensuring that the process reflects the needs and aspirations of each person. We encourage those involved in employment pathways or other important roles to become self-advocates, sharing their experiences to inspire others on their journeys.
We know that when communities offer innovative opportunities, they can help remove the barriers that people with disabilities often face when trying to connect and contribute.
CISE is inspired by Dr. Karl König, founder of the international Camphill movement, whose vision highlights the importance of every person having a meaningful role within their community.
